From the point an individual makes contact, for themselves or a loved one, HVRC’s culturally competent staff give individuals the time and attention needed to understand the problem(s) they are looking to solve. We understand the critical window when an individual with substance use disorder is willing to get help. The following 3 steps listed below briefly describe what to expect during the HVRC screening and admittance process.

Initial Contact

The first step is making initial contact with us by calling or filling out our online Contact Us form. Whether reaching out for yourself or a loved one, you can expect the following when reaching out to HVRC:

  • WE RESPOND – When initial contact is made both phone messages and online contact form submissions will be responded to within 24 business hours if staff is unavailable for immediate response.

  • WE ASK – We ask questions, as needed, to further identify the following:

    • Are you looking for outpatient treatment and recovery?
    • Is the potential client looking to reduce or quit using alcohol and/or drugs?
    • Is there a need for a higher level of care, social services, or community referral?
  • WE LISTEN – Our intake staff is compassionate, patient, and actively listens to understand the problems you are seeking help to solve.

The next step is the screening process. Once initial contact has been made, potential clients will be scheduled for an eligibility screening. This is usually done via phone call, however, in person screenings may be arranged. Keep reading to learn about the HVRC eligibility screening process.

Eligibility Screening

The screening process is often the first stage of intervention for a person with substance use disorder. During a thorough screening process, potential clients are determined both eligible and appropriate for HVRC outpatient programming. An eligibility screening can take about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. An intake specialist will ask a series of questions to help us fully understand your behavioral health needs and offer an appropriate recommendation. Eligibility screenings may also include the potential client’s loved ones or their referring agency. If a potential client is under the age of 18 then we will ask to speak with a parent or guardian. During the HVRC eligibility screening, potential outpatient treatment clients will be screened on a minimum of the following criteria:

  • Whether or not alcohol and/or other drug use has become a problem.
  • The physical condition of the client.
  • The psychological functioning of the client.
  • Outside support and resources.
  • Current housing/living conditions.
  • Previous treatment and recovery efforts.
  • Motivation or level of commitment to change.
  • Insurance coverage and ability.

HVRC eligibility criteria follows nondiscrimination practices and admission shall not be denied on the basis of ethnic group identification, religion, age, gender, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

Ineligible persons are referred to local resources for appropriate treatment from a facility, agency, or other relevant resource providing the services needed.

If eligible, clients will be scheduled for an immediate intake to be followed by a comprehensive assessment. Up next, learn more about the HVRC Intake process.

Intake

The intake process is an extension of the eligibility screening, when the decision to admit is formally made and documented. Typically, the client (and significant person/s in client’s life) along with our admissions director will complete various intake forms, document the eligibility screening results, complete appropriate releases of information, collect financial data, sign consent for treatment, and assign a primary counselor and case manager.

More About What To Expect During Intake

  • MOTIVATING A CLIENT – The intake interview is instrumental in engaging and motivating a client in the treatment process. Also, during intake clients begin to develop a relationship with their counselor and therapist.
  • INITIAL TREATMENT PLAN – The information collected and agreed upon by client and admissions director during the intake will form the basis of the client’s treatment plan.

  • CONFIDENTIALITY – The primary counselor is generally assigned to the client during intake. The counselor and client discuss client rights, confidentiality, and client privacy.
